Rates Rebate Scheme
Low income households are to benefit from the Covernment's review of the Rates Rebate Act 1973. If you own your own home and your income is less than $20,000, you could be entitled to a rebate of up to $500. The amount of the rebate depends on the total cost of your rates.
A couple where both partners qualified for NZ National Seperannuation in 2005/2006 (and with no additional income) would be eligible for the following rebate:
| Cost of Rates | Estimated Rebate |
|---|---|
| $800 | $0 |
| $1000 | $3 |
| $1200 | $136 |
| $1500 | $336 |
| $2000 | $500 |
Application forms for Rates Rebates are available from our service centres, or if you have access to the internet a form can be downloaded from the DIA Rates Rebate website. Also on this website are some examples of rebate eligibility and a calculator to work out your rebate.
